Governance in the NHS one day course

Explore key governance challenges in today’s NHS, and lessons for commissioners and service providers

Duration: Full day   CPD: 6 hours

About

Recent and radical change in the NHS is putting pressure on every part of the health and social care system. This practical course aims to explore key NHS governance topics to create a common understanding of the nature, scale and underlying causes of the current crisis. Through debate and group working, delegates will be encouraged to think creatively, plan collectively and to act decisively to secure the survival of local health and social care systems.

Delegates will be asked to consider the governance challenges they face in their own organisations and plot a way through this period of intense change whilst maintaining a grip on the quality and safety of care.

Course Highlights:

  • An outline to the political, economic and demographic causes of the current crisis.
  • Governance lessons for NHS commissioners and for providers of NHS services.
  • The post Health & Social Care Act 2012 landscape of care: governance in a commissioner led NHS and social care system.
  • Beyond structural reconfiguration: the principles of best governance practice in a transformed NHS.

What will you get out of it?

  • An opportunity for commissioners and providers to meet and work together to establish suitable governance arrangements in lieu of any specific guidance from NHS England.
  • Knowledge gained from a highly experienced, former director of board development in the NHS.
  • The course actually benefits from having a wide variety of delegates. Views can be gathered across the system and more robust working models established.
  • By having no formal links to the NHS this course can offer advice and guidance that can be both critical and truly independent.
  • Six months’ free affiliate membership of ICSA on attending this course. This gives you opportunities to extend your learning through regular briefings and the knowledge base, benefit from exclusive discounts on further training and publications and extend your network. Discover more.
