Summary

As a qualified law or finance practitioner with more than five years’ experience, you can quickly become qualified. With our Fast Track Professional route, we understand that you may already be able to demonstrate familiarity with many legal and financial matters. All we require is that you take two modules: Corporate Secretarial Practice and the Chartered Secretaries Case Study. These will ensure you also have the specific professional knowledge required of chartered secretaries and governance professionals. As a lawyer, you will need to be a member of the Bar or Law Society for your jurisdiction, or compliant with the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Regulations.

As an accountant, you must be a member of one of the following bodies to qualify for this route:

  • Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW)
  • Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS)
  • Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland (ICAI)
  • Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
  • Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
  • Chartered Institute of Public

Entry

Modules

Fast Track Professional route requires you to complete the final two of eight ICSA qualifying programme modules.

  • Corporate Secretarial Practice – examines the role of the chartered secretary in promoting and reinforcing good governance across an organisation through compliance with statutory obligations.
  • Chartered Secretaries Case Study – this module draws on knowledge from all the syllabuses of the other seven modules, demonstrating mastery of the content of ICSA qualifying programme and application of the required knowledge and skills to a business case example.

If you are a lawyer or an accountant with 5 or more years’ experience relevant to the Chartered Secretary profession, you may qualify for the Fast Track Professional entry route.

Lawyers

Qualified lawyers must be a current member of the Bar or Law Society for your jurisdiction or compliant with the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Regulations.

Accountants

Qualified accountants must also be a current member of one of the following major accountancy bodies:

  • Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW)
  • Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS)
  • Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland (ICAI)
  • Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
  • Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
  • Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA)
  • Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland (CPA Ireland)

  • Access to handy exam techniques webinars

You also have access to module-specific webinars and recordings, presented by the examiner of the module.

Tuition/ Self study

Study options are available to all ICSA qualifying programme students, regardless of the route being taken.

  1. Purchase tuition from one of our registered tuition providers. Our registered tuition providers offer different tuition options to suit your situation and your budget, including distance learning, face-to-face classes and blended learning.   2. Self study. If you prefer to self support, simply buy the study text for each module and make your own way through the syllabus.

Please note: Choosing to use a tuition provider will incur additional tuition fees to be paid direct to the provider, on top of your ICSA student fees.

Fees

Fast Track Professional is available at a total cost of £1,845. 

This includes:

  • Initial registration fees
  • One year student subscription fee
  • All exemption fees
  • One exam entry per module
  • Six months' access to CSPOnline

Reduced Rate countries* are eligible to apply for the reduced rate of £1,230.

  1. Evidence of the date you were admitted to membership to your relevant professional body
  2. Evidence of your current membership to your relevant professional body 
  3. A CV – you need to ensure your CV incorporates details of your experience in:
  • Company secretarial practice and legal work
  • Corporate governance
  • Financial management
  • Committee administration and accounting
  • General management and administration 
  • Pension
  • Insurance

N.B. Those choosing to study with a registered tuition provider should register with ICSA before doing so with a tuition provider so that the modules you are required to sit have been confirmed.
