Summary

The ICSA Level 4 Certificate in Corporate Governance is an introductory course that enables you to apply good governance principles across a variety of sectors.

The programme will help you understand and navigate governance structures to support your organisation and mitigate any issues that may arise.

By understanding the core corporate governance frameworks and codes, you will be better positioned to help your organisation achieve its objectives. 

Entry

This programme is open entry, with no prior qualifications required, and suitable if you are living or working in the UK or internationally.

It is especially useful for anyone looking to improve performance in their supporting roles as well as those with a background in governance roles such as secretarial assistants / Executive Assistants and governance officers.

Content

This qualification will help you better understand:

  • The role of the board and company secretary 
  • How to support and engage with the board on legal, financial and regulatory issues
  • Frameworks and principles of governance and how to apply the relevant codes
  • Knowledge on key players in governance and decision making complexities
  • The best ways to manage risk

There are four modules covering the following topic areas:

  • General principles of corporate governance
  • The board, shareholders and corporate reporting
  • Board procedure and governance administration
  • Risk governance

Study

ICSA recommends approximately 200 hours study time for the course across 6-9 months.

Assessment of the course is via one exam (3 hours with 15 minutes reading time) and can be taken in June and November each year. The exam paper contains a mixture of short- and extended-answer questions with a pass mark of 50%.

The syllabus and sample assessment materials will be available from January 2018.

When registering for the course, you must pick from one of the next two exam sessions upon registration. First assessment of this qualification is June 2018 (dates to be announced).
