ICSA student status
While you are registered as an ICSA student, you can use the term ‘ICSA student’ to describe your status. However, you are not a member of ICSA and you cannot describe yourself as a Chartered Secretary.

Registering on the course
Although you can register at any time, you should contact ICSA to check when the next course is scheduled. You need to complete the ICSA registration process and pay the full course fee in order to register.
After you register, you can only cancel within 30 days of your registration being confirmed. There is an administrative charge of £50 for a cancelled course. However, after the first webinar session of the course, no cancellations are allowed, even if it is within 30 days of your registration.
You are responsible for accessing the webinar sessions or recordings and letting ICSA know if you have any problems. We will email you before the first session with details of how to test the system and how to access the webinars. You need to read the emails carefully and carry out a test.
Entering for exams
When you register, you need to state when you are going to attempt the exam for the first time. This must be at one of the two exam sessions following the course.
e.g. If you register for the course in December, the course will run from February to May. You can opt to take the exam in the first week of June or at the end of November.
If you choose the first exam session and you subsequently change your mind, you can pay an administrative fee to defer the exam to a later date as long as you do this before 1 April for the June exam and 1 October for the November exam.
If you fail the exam at your first attempt, you have three opportunities to re-sit. You need to pay a separate re-sit fee, this is not covered in your course registration fee.
If you need to re-sit the exam, try not to delay this too long. You will need to successfully pass the exam within two years of completing the webinar course.
If you don’t attend an exam, this counts as a ‘fail’ and is one of the four attempts at the exam which you are allowed. If there is a reason why you can’t attend, contact us as early as possible to let us know and we may change your ‘fail’ result to ‘withdrawn’. A ‘withdrawn’ exam would not count as one of your four attempts. If you cannot attend the exam due to serious illness or bereavement, please contact us.
