Specimen strategic agenda for NHS foundation trust boards

Following ICSA’s ‘Mapping the Gap’ research project, it became apparent that NHS boards were seeking some assistance in defining board agendas that were sufficiently focused on strategic issues rather than operational activities.

This guidance note seeks to provide a specimen strategic agenda for all NHS entities to adapt for their own purposes to improve the discussion and decision-making of board meetings.

'ICSA research [found] the majority of board papers focused on historical data rather than strategic development and market forecasts. A failure to implement perceived best practice suggests there may be strong influences upon boards to focus more on operational matters than strategy.'
