No one would argue that corporate ownership models do not impact corporate governance. Company ownership follows either a dispersed shareholder model with many minority shareholders, or a concentrated ownership model where there are one or more shareholders with significant stakes.
Within a few years, as highlighted by the OECD Corporate Governance Factbook 2015, dispersed shareholder models tend to have been replaced with concentrated ownership companies.
