Redefine the concept of good governance, says Anthony Hilton

Ken Olisa coined the phrase ‘more Soviet than City’ during his time as a non-executive director of the Kazakhstan-based mining group ENRC. It highlighted the culture clash the company and its outside majority shareholders experienced, adjusting their standards of corporate governance to those expected by the City of London.

A lesson to be drawn from this is that good governance is often in the eye of the beholder. This brings us to Olisa’s current initiative with the Institute of Directors...
