In 2017, ICSA will once again be offering students and recent graduates working in governance a chance to take part in its essay writing competition in memory of Tom Morrison FCIS. The Tom Morrison Essay Prize will run from January to March, with a top prize of £1,000 and a runner-up prize of £500 being presented at the 2017 Graduation and Membership Ceremony in London on 26 May.
Tom, who died in 2014, was an active member and ex-President of ICSA, and a leading light in ICSA’s Registrar Group. A highly regarded and influential member of the share registration industry, Tom was an early supporter of the unique work of ShareGift, the charity which instigated the prize and which made a generous donation to The Chartered Secretaries’ Charitable Trust in order to establish it and fund the prizes.
Tom was known for challenging received wisdom and encouraging new thinking, so candidates will be invited to submit essays which demonstrate a fresh and original perspective.
Full details about the competition, including the question, will be announced in a future issue and on the website. Essays of between 2,000 and 2,500 words will need to be submitted between 9 January and 20 March 2017.
