Audit committees are gaining weightier responsibilities and greater accountability

The remit of today’s audit committee has expanded beyond the traditional roles of oversight of financial reporting, auditors and internal controls. Many audit committees are now expected to provide broad oversight on corporate reporting, risk management, compliance, cyber risk, data governance, tax arrangements, investigations, ethics and culture, as well as ownership of all aspects of the external audit relationship as stewards for shareholders.
