NHS boards must keep individual experience in sight when planning strategy
There is no mistaking that ‘Mid Staffs’ was a tragedy and the details published in the ‘Robert Francis Inquiry report into Mid-Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust’ make harrowing reading. As a practicing clinician I am simultaneously angered and reduced to tears by the accounts of failed care. As a former board member of both a Primary Care Trust and NHS Foundation Trust I am not entirely surprised that the board seemed unaware of the death rate amassing during the years 2005-2008.
