As clinical governance evolves with the introduction of commissioning group, a new code helps to underpin accountability and transparency in the NHS.
The stated intention behind the Health and Social Care Act 2012 was to open up the NHS to more innovative service provision, with a much needed focus on promoting integration between prevention, treatment and ongoing social care. Yet, some people remain concerned that the Act is something far more ominous – a piece of legislation that threatens the end of a ‘national’ health service.
