Activate learning has been through an exciting and a transformational journey in the past 2 years, going through a period of exciting growth.  We are looking for an inspiring and driven individual who will join us as Director of Governance. 

 We are a people organisation, so, above all, the post holder will need to be charismatic and engaging, providing advisory and operational administrative support to the Corporation, subsidiary boards, the CEO and the Group Executive Team, to ensure excellence in governance policy and practice, and building enduring and effective relationships.

You will lead a small team and support the Group Executive Team and the Board of Governors to develop the post-merger strategic plan for the coming 5 years.  This is a key role in the organisation responsible for supporting the governing body to be in a strong position to move the business forward.

The post holder shall have responsibility for supporting and overseeing the governance, policy, legal and data protection compliance environment of the organisation. Through persuasive communication and impactful influencing you will ensure that compliance and best practice is embedded into corporate culture and that the organisation meets its obligations in this regard in an effective and efficient manner. You will also have oversight of internal audit arrangements, ensuring an effective audit service which drives operational and compliance improvements and demonstrates value for money.

This is a permanent, full time role based at our Oxford Campus, please state your salary expectations on your application form.

 

What do you need to be successful in this role? 

You will be eloquent and able to communicate clearly and confidently, with discretion, empathy and sensitivity to a wide range of stakeholders at all levels and provide accurate and concise advice and clear and informed recommendations. You will be able to influence stakeholders in a manner consistent with our values, and drive change through consultation and collaboration. You will convey messages in a compelling and informative way and be an independent thinker who can nurture and develop relationships effectively.

You will bring relevant experience of working in an operational Governance, Clerk or Company Secretary role, together with a sound working knowledge of statutory and constitutional matters, legislation relating to data, contracts, and corporate governance. 

All corporate Governance backgrounds will be considered although if you have had exposure or understanding of working in education or more specifically Further Education, that would bring advantages.   

Managing the team will be key to the success of this role.  You will manage a highly competent team comprising a Compliance Officer, a Compliance Administrator, and an Executive Assistant. You will be experienced in fostering a culture of coaching and ongoing development to promote excellence.
