Could you be an Academy Ambassador in a role that is responsible for academies across the West Midlands? St Chad’s Academies Trust, which works in seven local authority areas, seeks two non-executives/directors to join its board.

The Academy Ambassadors Programme brings the expertise of the business world onto boards at multi-academy trusts (MATs) throughout the country to raise standards of education and improve the life chances of young people, which is critical to our social and economic success.

The opportunity

St Chad’s Academies Trust is a young multi-academy trust working across seven local authorities: Walsall, Wolverhampton, Stoke-on-Trent, Sandwell, Staffordshire, Telford and Wrekin and Shropshire. The trust seeks to recruit two new non-executive directors with expertise and knowledge in Health and Safety in relation to Property/Estates, and Finance. Board meetings are held at Three Spires, Station Road, Lichfield and once a year visit an Academy. Applicants of all faiths and of none are welcomed.

The board seeks two business leaders with expertise in

  • CFO/ Finance or
  • Health and Safety and
  • Property/ Estates Management

 

As a key member of the board you will support the trust in achieving the following over the next 12 – 24 months:

Standards - to raise and maintain standards and outcomes during a period of consolidation;

Development of learning communities - continue developing the learning communities / hubs across the region to ensure academies receive appropriate and quality support from the trust and the central team is organised to support this through an appropriate infrastructure;

Recruitment - to recruit to and strengthen the trust’s central team;

Infrastructure - to develop the infrastructure of the trust across its geographical areas whilst protecting the strength of the trust as a whole.

 

While the current focus is on consolidation and managing the impact of Covid-19, the future ambition of the trust is to have a pattern of managed growth, to establish effective MAT (Multi Academy Trust)-to-MAT collaboration and to develop a Teaching School Alliance. The trust has recently been awarded a grant which will allow it to connect all schools and families to cloud based learning systems.

 

What’s involved?

Board governance in education is a strategic, ‘eyes on, hands off’ commitment which typically involves attending c. six board meetings per year/6-8 hours’ time per month.

You will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent

 As an Academy Ambassador, you will join our alumni network which provides resources, guidance, networking events and webinars to support you in your role. All roles are pro bono.
