Chancery Education trust, based in the Kent region, has three schools spanning over Nursery and Primary education years, two schools are Ofsted rated outstanding and one has moved from special measures to good since joining the trust. The trust has 1,100 pupils on roll, 81 staff members and a budget of approximately £8 million. The schools caters for a total of 98 pupils from less affluent backgrounds who are eligible to receive additional pupil premium grant funding, 172 pupils with special educational needs and disabilities and 197 pupils who have English as an additional language. The schools regularly out perform national averages in statutory testing.
The trust has a national facilitation centre for the Challenge the Gap project. The trust aims to facilitate the empowerment of expertise and development of all staff in our community and beyond. The trust also run accredited Outstanding Teacher Programme, the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Programme and Outstanding Leadership in Education.
Trustees – or non-executive directors - are both charity trustees and company directors of the academy trust. The core functions of their role are: ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction; holding executive leaders to account for the educational and financial performance of a charitable company funded by the public purse.
The board of trustees manages the business of the academy trust and may exercise all the powers of the trust in compliance with its charitable objects, company and charity law.
In the interests of safeguarding, all trustee appointments would be subject to an enhanced disclosure and barring service check.
Every trustee is expected to abide by the trust’s code of conduct and the seven principles of public life set out by Lord Nolan: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

Role 1 and 2 requirements:
- Experience of driving positive change
- Experience in leadership and management £10million+ budget
- Professional experience in education/accountancy/finance/business/HR/Marketing/law/risk
- Understanding and acceptance of legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of being a trustee
2 - 4 hours /month minimum.
