About the trust

The trust comprises a two-site 16-19 academy in Guisborough and Stockton with 1,800 full-time A-level students, 100 high needs learners, two bases [35 places] for anxious/phobic KS3/4 students and also educating adults in the community. The trust has around 240 staff and a budget of approximately £8mn/pa.


TVCT has a primary school with 250 pupils on roll including a nursery provision and a nine-place pupil base and SEND pupils.


Plans for the future

The key challenges facing the trust over the next 12-24 months include:


  1. Growth - attracting further schools to convert to academies and join TVCT, at either secondary or primary level;
  2. Sponsorship – successfully sponsoring a school in Special Measures;
  3. Finances - ensuring entities within the trust maintain a balanced budget.

In the longer term, TVCT is considering the possibility of applying to run a Special or Alternative Provision school.

Trustee/Non-Executive Director or Member

The trust seeks an individual who has worked at a senior corporate level in a field, with a skillset that will complement this existing expertise of the board members.


Trustees – or non-executive directors - are both charity trustees and company directors of the academy trust. The core functions of their role are: ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction; holding executive leaders to account for the educational and financial performance of a charitable company funded by the public purse.


The board of trustees manages the business of the academy trust and may exercise all the powers of the trust in compliance with its charitable objects, company and charity law.

Every trustee is expected to abide by the trust’s code of conduct and the seven principles of public life set out by Lord Nolan: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

The successful applicant will have a track record of successful performance in a strategy development role, preferably sitting as a non-executive or trustee, operating at board level. A relevant qualification and/or proven record of delivery at the highest level in a complex medium- or largescale organisation is essential; likewise, experience of working at board level, holding executives to account and contributing to strategy development is key.

The successful applicant will possess strong inter-personal skills, with an adaptive approach and strategic mind-set. Additionally, they will be committed to the trust’s ethos and values. This means having the willingness to devote time and effort to create positive change for pupils.


Time commitment

The trust board meets four times per year, typically at 5.30pm in either Guisborough or Stockton. Meetings typically last for two hours.
