Governance Manager

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Bath Spa University in the new role of Governance Manager. Reporting directly to the University Secretary, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing, administering and developing the University’s corporate governance processes and for providing a professional secretariat service to the Board of Governors and the University’s most senior committees, including the Finance and Infrastructure Committee and the Audit Committee. In this important and varied role, the successful candidate will also advise on and co-ordinate the effective operation of the University’s procedures in relation to complaints and student discipline.

About you (requirements)

You will be educated to degree level and possess knowledge of the practice of good governance with demonstrable experience of successfully delivering a high standard of service to support business conducted at Board or senior committee level, including the preparation of schedules of business and agendas and the drafting of formal minutes.

You will be an excellent communicator with first rate organisation and prioritising skills, impeccable attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills. Experience of effective complaint-handling is desirable, but not essential for candidates with the aptitude and commitment to learn quickly.

This is a new post, based within a newly formed department, which presents a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to make role of Governance Manager their own and to develop it.

Annual Leave:

Employees (grade 7) are entitled to 44 days paid leave per annum made up as follows:

  • 33 days annual leave

  • 8 bank holidays

  • 3 closure days

Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS): 

All new employees are automatically enrolled in the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) from the first date of appointment. The University will contribute the equivalent of 19.20% of the employee's annual salary. The employee contribution rate at grade 7 salary point 30 is currently 6.50% and qualifies for tax relief. Other scheme benefits include: Death in service benefits of 3 x actual pay received in final year plus a pension for dependants and the option to increase pension value through Additional Voluntary Contributions (AVCs).

Nursery: onsite nursery with discounts for staff. Payment for all nursery fees can be made via salary sacrifice, allowing you to save on all tax deductions.
