Our last CPD event before the summer break took place in BDO on 19th June.
Lorna Kelly Manager – BDO Customs & International Trade Services, explained the key components of the single market and the customs union. Lorna spoke about the issue facing Irish business and the impact on trade arising for a soft or hard Brexit. She outlined the key issues facing Irish exporters and highlighted a number of factors that Irish firms and business need to do to properly a plan ahead for Brexit.
Katherine Byrne M&A partner, BDO Corporate Finance, spoke to delegates on the sectors most impacted in Ireland by Brexit and the impact that Brexit has had on M&A activity in both 2017 and 2018 to date and the likely trend in the near term.
Katherine gave an overview of the funding structure behind recent M&A activity in Ireland and she highlighted where opportunities might arise. Finally Katherine outlined the key steps involved in planning for the unknown unknowns relating to Brexit.
Both presenters then led a discussion and a Question & Answer session with those present.
