Key topics for Boards in 2014

23 January 2014

An update from the ICSA in London circulated to LinkedIn members yesterday (January 22nd) summarises the outputs of a survey completed late last year among company secretaries by the ICSA, Financial Times and Company Secretarial Services.  Among the 6 ‘hot topics’ for Boards to consider in 2014 are:

  • Boardroom Diversity (only 25% of respondents believe the pipeline for female executive talent is sufficient; this is up from 4% the previous year)
  • Board Tenure (32% believe that board members become less effective and innovative after 6 to 9 years service on the Board)
  • Cyber risk (76% of those questioned believe their company is aware of its exposure to cyber risk)
  • Remuneration (only 2% of respondents believe that the recent remuneration guidelines will allay public concerns about perceptions of excessive executive pay).
