Our first CPD event of the year was held this week in the offices of Deloitte Dublin, where an audience of 90 members and guests heard Melissa Scully, Senior Manager, Centre for Corporate Governance at Deloitte Dublin and James Beasley, Director, Financial Services Governance at Deloitte UK present on the Senior Executive Accountability regime.
Melissa gave an overview of the proposed reforms and the rationale for them. The reforms cover four key areas: Conduct standards, Senior Executive Accountability Regime, enhancements to the fitness and probity regime and a unified enforcement process.
Melissa spoke about the challenges and opportunities arising from the reforms and the 6 steps that firms can take to prepare for implementation.
James referred to the introduction of the UK Senior Manager Certification regime and what we might expect here in Ireland as a result of the introduction of the new requirements here. James also summarised a structure that could be used for implementation and key lessons learned from delivering the UK programme. Finally, he elaborated on the role of the Company Secretary both at the implementation phase and ongoing management of the regime.
