Companies (Accounting) Act 2017
Finally the Companies (Accounting) Act has become law. The main purpose of this Act was to transpose Directive 2013/34/EU, which focused on financial statements and related reports of certain types of undertakings, but it also affects unlimited companies and their exemption from filing financial statements. The full article on the Act can be accessed here.
Our annual conference took place on 23 May and drew a record crowd. The insights on governance and strategy from the CEOs who presented were fascinating. The technical updates, cyber simulations, a mindfulness session, and a very interesting closing from Bernard Dunne were all very well received. The conference slides and photos can be accessed here.
Our Student and Careers evening was held on 4 May at Robert Walters’ Dublin office. The evening was a huge success, with insights into the diverse role of the company secretary from members in practice and those working in-house, a presentation on networking skills, and career advice on how to navigate the recruitment process from CV to interview. Increased market demand for company secretaries, together with attractive salaries, make this rewarding profession one to consider.
We continue to hold CPD events on all aspects of corporate governance and company law. Please check our website for details of upcoming events.
There have been a number of blogs posted over the past few months on topics relevant to company secretaries. These can be accessed here.

Calendar of events
A calendar of events is available through the Events tab of the website and I would encourage members to attend as many events as possible and to become an active member of ICSA in Ireland. Please note that these events are also open to non-members, so if you have any colleagues or friends who may be interested in attending, please urge them to come along.
