Message from the President

Graduation and Membership Ceremony

We held our Graduation and Membership Ceremony on 23 November at The Merrion Hotel. There was a special atmosphere in the room that evening with new graduates, associates, fellows and their family and friends enjoying the event. We were joined by Wendy McNamara Twamley of the Northern Ireland Branch, John Heaton, UKRIAT President, and Simon Osborne, ICSA CEO.

Congratulations to Clare Colleran-Molloy and Peter Gray who were jointly awarded the Joe O’Sullivan prize for the best overall professional programme performance in their exams. Photos from the event can be accessed here.

AGM and Annual Lunch

Our AGM and Annual Lunch were held on 24 November. A full house at Fire restaurant enjoyed an excellent lunch and the opportunity to network with company secretarial colleagues.

Our chosen charity for the lunch was Barretstown and Maurice Pratt detailed the excellent work being carried out by their team. Maurice also reflected on the various company secretaries he has worked with over the years and described seven key qualities which, in his view, a company secretary should possess.

CPD Events

We had a full house at our CPD event on Effective Board Reporting on 5 December and the slides presented are available here.

I am pleased to announce that we will be holding our first CPD event outside Dublin on 12 December. This event will be on Effective Minute Taking and will be held at 8.00am in the Clayton Hotel, Lapps Quay Cork. Book your place here.

Regional Business Development Manager

I am delighted to report that on 1 October John Burns was appointed as our new Regional Business Development Manager. John’s role will include the following:

  • Partner with third level institutions to develop ICSA qualifying courses
  • Develop strategic alliances with other institutes
  • Establish relationships with other professional bodies
  • Link in with Communications and Events Committees to assist with social media and event planning
  • Develop deeper relationships with recruiters and key company secretarial firms

On behalf of Council, I would like to wish John all the best in his new role and I look forward to working with him over the next year. Based on what John has achieved in the short time he has been in the role, I expect that he will be a great success.

There have been a number of blogs posted over the last few months on topics relevant to company secretaries. These can be accessed here.
