Appointing professional non-executive directors may strengthen school governing bodies
There is a view that the role of a non-executive director (NED) could be applied to that of the governing body in a school. However, with more than 24,000 schools in England, including non-maintained and independent, could this realistically be achieved? Perhaps there are important lessons that can be translated from one environment to the other.
