Housing sector governance: debating non-executive director pay

Every board wants to get the best out their non-executive directors (NEDs), but in order to attract the right people with the appropriate skills, experience and personalities should you be paying them for their time?

As the sector becomes subject to increased scrutiny, housing associations must seek to inspire confidence and ensure their decision-making capability is robust.

In this evening seminar, we look at the arguments for and against remuneration of NEDs in the housing sector. Our cross-sectoral panel will explore how other sectors have managed the thorny issue of remuneration for their non-executive members and consider whether there is any subjective or empirical evidence around an increased performance at board level since payment was introduced.

Speakers include:

  • Andrew Purkis, Independent Consultant and Trustee, ActionAid International and ActionAid UK
  • Stephen Bull, Senior Consultant, Campbell Tickell
