The new corporate governance code: are you prepared?

Understanding the gap between current practice and future compliance

This year has seen a number of significant developments in the UK corporate governance regime. A new UK Corporate Governance Code for premium listed and AIM companies, new Guidance on Board Effectiveness and, for the first time, a consultation for large private companies in the form of the Wates Principles. Both listed and private companies must now start to shift their attention to how they will respond to these new codes and guidelines.

Grant Thornton’s latest corporate governance review, to be released in October, shows that although a few companies are already looking to address the challenges and focus of the new Codes, many are waiting to see how others will respond before putting their plans into place.

Along with highlights from their 17th governance review, this event will discuss the current best practice in corporate governance in the UK and the practical steps that boards and company secretaries should be taking to adapt to the new governance landscape.

Our panel will include:

  • David Styles, Director of Corporate Governance, Financial Reporting Council
  • Tony Hunter, Company Secretary, Just Eat
  • Simon Lowe, Chair of the Grant Thornton Governance Institute
  • An institutional investor
