Find your inner NED

High-performing non-executive directors (NEDs) bring independence and effective challenge to a board. It is a role that Professor Andrew Kakabadse (speaking on Day 2 of this year’s conference) outlined as a natural fit for high-achieving company secretaries in his 2014 research The Company Secretary: Building trust through governance. If you are considering a role as a NED or have recently been appointed as a NED, we have the perfect session for you.

Kit Bingham, a partner in the Board Practice at Odgers Berndtson, and Head of the Chair & Non-Executive Director Practice, will be helping would-be and recent NEDs to understand how executive head hunters match skills and experience with a NED role. The session will also delve into how NEDs can maximise the effectiveness of boards and how you can make the most of the NED role.

Kit joined Odgers Berndtson after a career in financial journalism and financial public relations. He was Senior Writer at Financial News, a Dow Jones publication, covering both corporates and the capital markets, with a particular focus on corporate governance reform. In 2007, he joined The Communication Group as a Director of the Financial Practice, with a mix of professional services and financial services clients. He developed and tutored an MBA in board effectiveness at Henley Management College, and graduated from Balliol College, Oxford University, in 1991.

Kit’s session will be at 13:30 on Tuesday 4th July.
