About us

The Thames Valley Group covers Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxford and is run by local chartered secretaries to promote the profession in the Thames Valley area. Other aims of the Group are to provide continuing professional development and networking activities as well as supporting the Institute's students. Group events are open to other professionals within the region appointed to the position of Company Secretary as well as Professional Subscribers of the Institute.

How far has the corporate world come in terms of diversity and inclusion?

Date: Thursday 18 October 2018

During this event we took a closer look at the developments in this area as well as ongoing inclusion issues.

Our speaker David Gracie, Director - Head of Global Entity Management Services at KPMG, outlined the benefits that an inclusive approach and a diverse team bring to organisations and the importance of continuous improvement in this area.

 

Special meeting on proposed Charter and byelaw changes

Date: Wednesday 25 July 2018

Peter Swabey, Research and Policy Director, and Frank Curtiss, The Chartered Governance Institute UKRIAT Immediate Past President, updated you on the introduction of the new qualifying programme syllabus, affiliated membership and the new designation of chartered governance professional. They also sought your views on the International Council proposals to build on these innovations, including a new name for the Institute. You can read more about the proposals here

Brexit seminar

Date: Thursday 17 May 2018

Our guest speaker, Sir Mark Boleat, provided an update on Brexit and implications for the UK, EU, US, Asia, Commonwealth and the wider global markets.

Sir Mark is a Senior Partner at AlbionRock Ltd, a business advisory firm providing strategic consulting on Brexit. He is Chairman of Link Scheme Holdings Ltd, Deputy Chairman of the City of London Corporation’s Policy and Resources Committee (having been Chairman from May 2012 to May 2017), Chairman of Governors of the City of London Academy Highbury Grove, Chairman of the Housing and Finance Institute, and a member of the Advisory Board of International Business and Diplomatic Exchange (IBDE).

General Data Protection Regulation seminar

Date: Thursday 8 March 2018

Bradley Geppert, Data Security Inspector and Mandy Webster, Data Protection Consulting, provided an overview of the requirements in the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the challenges businesses will face and consider the practical changes to policies and processes that will be necessary as a result. 

All participants received a copy of the GDPR guidance note.

 

Festive Drinks

Date: Thursday 7 December 2017

This was a great opportunity to celebrate the year's achievements and network with peers. The drinks are a chance to meet and socialise with like-minded individuals in an informal setting.

Non-members and those from other professions were welcome at this event.

Thames Valley Branch CPD Meeting

Speakers:

David Clarke, former head of cyber security at BT Plc, will be advising on data protection policy and the implementation of appropriate technology and processes to support cyber security measures. 

Steve Doyle, Trainer and Coach, will discuss how best we can develop our Linkedin profiles to be more clear, concise and customer focused. 

 

Special briefings on proposed Charter and byelaw changes

David Venus FCG, International President, and Peter Swabey FCG, Policy and Research Director, outlined the strategic drivers for the proposed Charter an byelaw changes and what they would mean for you. 

Though only members can vote in the AGM, all students are very welcome to take part.
