About us

Welcome to ICSA in the counties of Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire and the city of Milton Keynes. We are an active and successful Group with nearly 670 members and 110 students resident in the area.

Beds & Herts Group Objectives 

  • to promote the values and professional status of ICSA within the group and the wider community.
  • to provide a mix of professional development and socially based events to achieve the widest possible appeal for members and students.
  • to attract participation from all sections of group membership and where possible other professional bodies and professionally interested persons.

We organise a programme of topical events each year, which include a wide range of professional seminars, based on company secretarial challenges and items of particular interest for chartered secretaries.

How far has the corporate world come in terms of diversity and inclusion?

This event took a closer look at the developments in this area as well as ongoing inclusion issues.

Our speaker David Gracie, Director - Head of Global Entity Management Services at KPMG, outlined the benefits that an inclusive approach and a diverse team bring to organisations and the importance of continuous improvement in this area.

 

Blockchain - How it works and how to use it

Date: Wednesday 7 November 2018

ICSA and CIMA invited you to a joint CPD event about Blockchain and online currencies.

This was a great opportunity to gain a basic understanding of the Blockchain technology and its applications across different sectors. Our speaker for the evening was Laurence Kirk, CEO and Senior Blockchain Engineer at Extropy.IO.

In this session, Laurence covered:

  • a (gentle) introduction to Blockchain technology
  • how Bitcoin and Ethereum work
  • business use cases of blockchains and how to judge suitability
  • an overview of blockchain applications in finance and industry
  • ICOs, how blockchains are used for funding
  • challenges facing blockchains
  • the future for blockchains.

Special meeting on proposed Charter and byelaw changes

Date: Monday 2 July 2018

Peter Swabey, Policy and Research Director of ICSA and Frank Curtiss, ICSA UKRIAT Immediate Past President, updated you on the introduction of the new qualifying programme syllabus, affiliated membership and the new designation of chartered governance professional. They also sought your views on the International Council proposals to build on these innovations, including a new name for ICSA. You can read more about the proposals here

 

General Data Protection Regulation seminar

Peter Swabey FCIS, ICSA Policy and Research Director, provided an overview of current data protection policies and processes and consider how they are likely to change in light of the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) directive.

 

Winter CPD Meeting

Date: Tuesday 16 January 2018

We were joined by guest speaker, Jeffrey Ridley FCIS, former branch chairman now Professor of Corporate Governance Assurance at the University of Lincoln. Jeffrey discussed the latest Corporate Governance Reform and his views on ICSA's involvement.  

 

Special briefings on proposed Charter and byelaw changes

Date: Thursday 31 August 2017

Peter Swabey FCIS, Policy and Research Director, and David Venus FCIS, International President, will outline the strategic drivers for the proposed Charter and byelaw changes and what they would mean for you.

Though only members can vote in the AGM, all students are very welcome to take part.

 

The Minuting of Meetings

Date: Tuesday 18 April 2017

Good minuting is deceptively difficult and time consuming. ICSA's new guidance for minute-takers provides up-to-date expert advice about all aspects of the process.

Attendees joined Peter Swabey FCIS, ICSA Policy and Research Director, to hear more about the principles and practice of successful minute taking, and the consultation that informed the guidance.
