Fast track to the boardroom

Why become a Chartered Secretary?

  • The Chartered Secretary qualification puts you on the fast track to the boardroom. As a qualified company secretary you will work closely with the Chairman, the board and the non-executive directors and advise them on regulatory and legal matters
  • If you are already qualified as a lawyer or an accountant you only need to take four additional modules in order to qualify for Grad ICSA status. Some exceptions apply.
  • As well as law and finance, the qualification covers corporate governance, administration, company secretaryship and management giving you access to a broad range of portable skills
  • Once qualified you can work in the private, public or not-for-profit sectors. Some Chartered Secretaries set up their own business providing company secretarial services
  • Your CPD requirement is fully accounted for
  • The ICSA qualification is internationally recognised
  • Undertaking the qualification can significantly increase your earning capacity. The average base salary of a company secretary in a FTSE 100 is £188,000 Source: 'Salary Survey Company Secretaries', Chambers & Partners 2008/09
  • In an increasingly regulatory environment, directors are often required to have knowledge of legal and regulatory issues. The breadth and depth of the ICSA qualification gives you the skills to handle any aspect of corporate administration.
