ICSA Charities

The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators has three charities; each with distinctive aims. In summary, a Prize Fund congratulates exemplary students entering the profession, an Education and Research Foundation promotes the profession of secretaryship, and a Benevolent Fund provides support to assist Members, former Members and Graduates of the Institute and their dependants who are in need.

ICSA Benevolent Fund

Registered Charity Number 213345

The ICSA Benevolent Fund was founded in 1897 and provides financial support to members and graduates of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries, former members and / or their dependants who find themselves in need.

Every request from eligible applicants will be considered.  Examples of support provided include a regular allowance, payment towards telephone rental and TV licence and emergency alarms for the elderly and disabled.  Support can also be granted for specific needs, for example towards the cost of clothing, debts, disability needs, essential home repairs and respite care.

More information on the work of the Fund can be found in the Annual Report and Accounts

ICSA Benevolent Fund Event for Volunteer Visitors, March 2010

The ICSA Benevolent Fund will be holding its biennial training event for Volunteer Visitors from 25 to 26 March at the Seattle Hotel, Brighton Marina.

Our theme is ‘Help with Money’, and we aim to provide a greater understanding of the financial difficulties faced by the Fund’s beneficiaries and of organisations that can provide guidance.

Presentations will be given by TaxHelp for Older People, the Pensions Advisory Service, the Consumer Credit Counselling Service and Turn2us, which helps people access benefits and grants.  Paul Palmer FCIS, Professor of Voluntary Sector Management at Cass Business School will also speak in respect of Charitable Governance.

If you are interested in becoming a Visitor, you are welcome to join us in Brighton.  We would particularly welcome new visitors in the South of England. The ICSA Benevolent Fund aims that every UK beneficiary should have the opportunity to receive 2 contacts a year from a visitor, where appropriate, and our Visitors play a crucial role in supporting beneficiaries, and assessing their needs.

For further information about becoming a Visitor, please contact Elizabeth Howarth, ICSA Charities Officer on 020 7612 7048 or email icsacharities@icsa.co.uk.
