Simon Osborne, former Chief Executive

Simon is Chief Executive and a Fellow of ICSA, as well as being a solicitor. Before joining ICSA, Simon was a freelance governance consultant. In that capacity, he acted as the Joint Head of ICSA Board Evaluation, working successfully with a broad range of companies, UK regulators and other organisations. He brings first-hand knowledge and understanding of the practical and personal aspects of the operation of boards and how to identify performance improvements.

Until April 2003, Simon's career was in the British railway industry as general counsel, company secretary and latterly a main board executive director. From January 2005 until October 2011 (when he became Chief Executive of ICSA), Simon chaired ICSA's Company Secretaries Forum, which comprises mainly company secretaries from FTSE 250 companies. He is a member of the International Corporate Governance Network, serving on the Business Ethics and (as chair) the Bylaws & Procedures Committees.

He is also a non-executive director of Crown Business Communications Limited – an award winning corporate communications agency - and of its parent, MNN Holdings Limited. In the voluntary sector, Simon is Deputy Chairman of the principal UK railway industry charity, the Railway Benefit Fund, and chairs its Nominations Committee.
