30 September 2011: The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Simon Osborne FCIS, Solicitor as the interim Chief Executive of the Institute. Simon will discharge the role of Chief Executive while the United Kingdom Committee of the Institute conducts a search to recruit a permanent successor for Dr. David Wilson who resigned last month.

Until 2003, Simon’s career was in the railway industry as general counsel, company secretary and latterly a main board director. In the voluntary sector Simon is deputy chairman of the principal UK railway industry charity, the Railway Benefit Fund. He has been closely involved with the Institute since 2000; first as a member of the Company Secretaries Forum which he has chaired since 2005; since 2003, as a member of the ICSA Board Evaluation team; and from 2007 to 2009 as a member of the Council of the Institute.

In addition to his new role as Chief Executive, Simon will continue with his role as Joint Head of ICSA Board Evaluation.

Ron Rosenhead, the UK President of the Institute said: ‘My fellow Honorary Officers of the Institute and I are delighted that Simon has agreed to take up the role of Chief Executive on this interim basis to allow us time to recruit a permanent successor. He has been a great supporter of the Institute and I look forward to working with him.’

Simon Osborne said: ‘The Institute has a fine brand and I look forward to playing my part to enhance it for the benefit of all Chartered Secretaries. I am pleased to be able to help the Institute in this way for as long as is required’
